Hello! My name's Cyrille Horper, for those of you who didn't know that yet. I'm 25 years old, and I'm from Luxembourg (indeed, it is a country ;-) ). I am currently studying Marketing Communications at IHECS, an institution of higher education in the centre of Brussels. My hobbies are cycling, working on my MAC, going to the cinema, taking pictures and filming and editing movies, going out, having fun, and, of course, managing this website... So you see, there's always an occupation for me!

[Social Life and Commitments]

I have always been interested in association life, so I was member of the local fire brigade, the local youth club, and member of the student comittee in my secondary school. Currently I am a member of KML, Koler Movies Lëtzebuerg, an amateur movie club for young people. I've already worked for a couple of productions such as Rendolepsis, Black King's Way, Riddly 2 and a few others, not forgetting the numerous marriages and other documentaries we shot to earn some money... KML's been celebrating a lot of success during the last years, winning some prices in international competitions. In 2008, the club celebrated its tenth anniversary.

To take interest in and fight for a cause has always inspired me. Years ago, in the area of the city I live in, there was a "Youth Forum" where I had the pleasure to present the youth's issues to the city councillors and the mayor. The meeting was very animated and we took the opportunity to make our voices heard loud and clear. That evening, the mayor and the councillors left with red faces. Since then, I have become increasingly interested in politics, and I take each city council meeting as an opportunity to talk with the authorities about our problems. No wonder there's a CityNightBus driving through Neudorf now, or fewer traffic lights in our street – you just need to talk with the politicians and keep track of what's happening in your area!

There's one commitment which will (unfortunately) be difficult to top: in June 2006, I worked as a volunteer for the FIFA World Cup in Cologne, Germany. This unforgettable experience began on New Year's Eve in 2005. I was staying in Berlin at the time and the people's excitment about their "football-year" made me inquisitive: how would people celebrate during the World Cup? The best way to get the answer was to participate! First, I applied as a chauffeur, but I didn't know Cologne very well, so the organisers put me into the ticketing group. What sounded unchallenging in the beginning became the best memories of my life: after some training courses (in order to prepare the organisation of the games in Cologne), it all started on June 10th and lasted over 3 weeks. I cannot begin to describe this extraordinary experience – best participate in a large-scale event like this and live through it yourself!

On October 8th, 2006, a new element came into my (young) career: at 4.50pm, I read the news on Eldoradio, one of the most popular radio stations after RTL. Working there was fun, and I gained a lot of experience. Similar work I have done worth mentioning include productions for the Luxembourgish RTL Television evening news.

[Hobbies]

I am very curious, so no wonder if I'm interested in so many things. Another advantage is that I've always got an occupation! I like riding my bike, going out with friends, working on this website, and and and… Taking pictures is one of my pastimes, too, and since I've been taught how to use a DSLR, taking pics has become even more fun! Another field of interest: I like video and audio editing.
People who know me will tell you that I have several pet peeves. My favourite one: my fascination with public transports... Here is a comment from schoolmates: "Has Cyrille got the map of the Brussels network tattooed onto his back?! Nobody knows where this silly passion comes from, however, we've all understood (you've said it often enough) that the prémétro was initially planned to be turned into a proper underground." ;-)

Other passions are fireworks, laser shows, and similar events. Years ago, we were crazy enough to plan our own fireworks for New Year's Eve, with a music choreography! Nowadays, I like organising my birthday party or venture into wedding planning for friends… The best thing is, of course, whenever all these interests come together, for example when I take snapshots of the annual fireworks display at the Vianden castle…

  

And, if this wasn't enough, my curiosity has taken me into the south of our country and beyond the French border to discover abandoned places such as factories or mines... This is called Urban Exploring.
